Join Mechele Romanchock and Brian Sullivan of Alfred University for a presentation and conversation on connecting student library workers to broader university goals, and in doing so, demonstrating value and gaining support.

Presentation: Singing an old song in a new key: How we inspired campus leadership to join the band 

This presentation will focus on how connecting our College Work-Study jobs in the Alfred University Libraries with our University goals has led to increased administrative recognition and support. This has been achieved through prioritization of the student worker program, better articulation of the value of the program to the students and the libraries, and clear alignment with larger institutional goals like retention, mentorship, and career readiness. Our presentation will include how library leaders can make similar connections with their student worker programs and other library initiatives in order to be valued as an essential part of your institution. 

About the presenters:

Mechele Romanchock is the Director of Libraries and Brian Sullivan is the Dean of Libraries at Alfred University, which includes the New York State College of Ceramics. Prior to being promoted to these leadership roles at Alfred, Mechele was the Public Services Librarian and Brian was the Information Literacy Librarian. Mechele has a BA in Comparative Cultures from Alfred University and an MLS from Clarion University. She is passionate about the mentorship and support of student workers in libraries. Brian has a BA in English from SUNY-Fredonia, an MA in Theology from Roberts Wesleyan University, and an MLS from the University at Buffalo. He was delighted to receive a SUNYLA Mentor Award in 2024. 

The intended audience for this session includes library leaders and those in roles responsible for advocating for resources and communicating with campus leadership.
